Viola M. Hays

Viola M. Hays, 101, of Marshall, Mo., died Friday, July 15, 2022, at Legendary Nursing and Rehab in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with the Rev. David Slusher officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Born March 18, 1921, in Gilliam, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Orville Dean Moore Sr. and Celia Crispin Sanderson Moore. In 1943, she married Edward W. Erickson, who preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1961. On Jan. 5, 1963, she married John L. Hays, who preceded her in death on March 14, 1996. She lived in Marshall since the early 1960s, moving from Minnesota, and worked at International Shoe Factory and Kiddie Care at Olivet Freewill Baptist Church. She was a member of Gill Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, and cooking for family dinners.

Survivors include one daughter, Wanda M. Erickson of Columbia, Mo.; two granddaughters, Stacy Bagby and Candice Jackson; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Kyrie Adams, Justin, Jeremy and Jenna Wilson, Blair Singleton and Michael Applegate; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Moore of Marshall and Celia McCleskey of Independence, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Viola was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty E. Crowley; one granddaughter, Dana Applegate; three brothers, O.D. Moore Jr., William F. Moore and Orville Moore; and two sisters, Evelyn D. Nichols and Doris Dryer.
