In weather conditions much more like November than late April, the Missouri Valley College Vikings played their Spring Game Saturday on Gregg-Mitchell Field in Marshall. (Above) Senior wide receiver Dorian Miles (right) catches a pass with sophomore defensive back Kaden Khammanivong defending. (Below) Freshman running back Cortez Williams (43) breaks a tackle, while junior linebacker Abel Clark (30) and senior defensive back Johnny Bailey (20) close into try to bring him down. The scrimmage culminated three weeks of spring practices. The Vikings, coming off a 3-8 season, report for fall practice in early August. There will be changes in the Heart of America Athletic Conference this season, Evangel is leaving, and Missouri Baptist is coming in to play football and men’s volleyball. The Heart decided to drop the first cross-divisional games, allowing league teams to play a non-conference game on Aug. 26. But, at this time, Valley does not have an opponent scheduled for that week. Valley will not be playing Clarke in 2023. As of now, the Vikings will open the season Sept. 2 with a home game versus Culver-Stockton. (Hobby King/Democrat-News)
