1946 – 2023

Rev. David D. Norbury, 76, of rural Blackwater, Missouri, passed away at his home on June 10, 2023.
David D. Norbury was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on August 12, 1946, a son of Lee Edmondson Norbury and Emily (Krusekopf) Norbury. David moved to New Franklin and attended Clarks Chapel School through the 8th grade and graduated from New Franklin High School in 1964. He graduated from Central Methodist College with a BA degree in history and a minor in mathematics in 1968. While at Central Methodist, he met the love of his life, Mary Benfield, who was serving as a US-2 in Howard County, and they married on August 18, 1968. Later he received his Master of Divinity from Chandler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and was ordained Elder in 1972.
Rev. Norbury served as a United Methodist Pastor in Waverly, Chillicothe, North Cross in North Kansas City, Marceline, Rock Port, Aurora, Carrollton, Lebanon, and Warrensburg before being appointed District Superintendent of the Southeast Missouri District in Cape Girardeau for seven years.
David was also a member or served on boards of the Boy Scouts of America, Kappa Mu Epsilon Honorary Mathematics Society, Rotary International, Habitat for Humanity and Friends of Arrow Rock. He ministered to many and served on numerous committees throughout Missouri in the United Methodist Conference. He was in his element when he was appointed and served as District Superintendent of the Southeast Missouri District. David was an avid reader and loved gardening and baking. He enjoyed sharing his bounty with so many others. Most of all he loved his “grands” and attending all their activities.
Cherishing his memory include his wife, Mary; daughters, Beth and husband Jason Teeter of Marceline, Missouri, and Ali and husband Curtis Roth of rural Blackwater; four grandchildren, Brooke and Brianna Teeter and Scott and Laura Roth; brothers, Frederick (Rita) Norbury of Columbia, John (Susan) Norbury of Boonville; and a sister, Sue (Denny) Lammers of Newton, Kansas; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; older sister, Nancy Reid; and an infant sister, Ann Elizabeth.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 16, 2023, at the New Franklin United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
A private family burial will be held at Clarks Chapel Cemetery.
