Owen Worstell, 90, of Marshall, Mo. passed away Friday, July 28, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

Owen was born June 25, 1933, in Troy, KS, to Vard Thomas Worstell and Ethel Blanch Niver Worstell. After graduating from David H. Hickman High School, he enlisted in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. During his time in the service, he played football for the Marine Corps football team.

After his time in the service, he went on to attend the University of Missouri.  He played as a defensive tackle for four years for the Missouri Tigers football team.  He was invited to play in a Blue-Gray Football Classic annual all-star game.

After college, he pursued a successful career in education.  He also found success as a football coach and led the Higginsville Huskers team to win a state championship.  He retired from his role as superintendent of the Brunswick R-II School District.

Owen will be missed by his wife, Gussie, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
