A seventh-grade student from Miami recently showcased her talent and skills at the world’s largest junior high rodeo.
On June 23, Jalyn Dixie Page headed to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete in breakaway roping at the 19th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) after earning a spot on the state/provincial National Junior High Rodeo team.
Jayln’s mother, Jill Roufs, said that Jayln performed very well overall at the finals, considering it was her first appearance at the world national finals.
“(Jayln) roped awesome in the first round with 4.80,” she said. “… (She) missed the second round.”
According to the National High School Rodeo Association’s website, the NJHFR includes approximately 1,200 participants from 43 U.S. States, five Canadian Provinces, Australia and Mexico, making it the largest junior high rodeo globally. In addition to vying for over $80,000 in prizes, NJHFR contestants compete for over $200,000 in university scholarships and the opportunity to be recognized as a National Junior High Finals Rodeo World Champion.
