June 27, 1921 – April 20, 2023 Mary Eleanor (Warford) DuBois passed away on Thursday April 20, 2023, at the age of 101. Her husband, Dr. H. L. (Hugh) DuBois, and her son, Tom DuBois, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son David DuBois, PhD (Cathy) of Akron, Ohio; and her daughter, Elizabeth DuBois Hokama, JD (Galen) of Moorpark, California. Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive her: Sam and Caitlin DuBois; Nicky DuBois; Rachel Handoll-DuBois (Malcolm) and Andrew Russo; and Gilbert Handoll-DuBois and Noa Russo.
Eleanor and her husband were long-time members of the First United Methodist Church in Marshall. She was much beloved for her dedication to her church and non-profit organizations of which she was often president or founder. Her home was welcoming to many, and her hospitality, humor, and warm engagement will be greatly missed. Mrs. DuBois was born in Madison, Missouri, June 27, 1921, and completed her BS in Commerce at Central Methodist University. Marrying soon after graduation, she was often the sole support of the family as her husband attended medical school, then optometric school. The couple moved to Marshall in 1951 to raise their family and establish a flourishing optometric practice. They retired to Winter Haven, Florida, in 1989. A Celebration of Life service will be held for her at the First United Methodist Church of Marshall on Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m., followed by a light lunch where favorite memories can be shared. All are welcome to attend.
