Linn Van Winkle, 80, of Independence, Mo., died Saturday, November 12, 2022, on his family farm west of Slater.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, from 2 until 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Slater, followed by military honors at 3 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Department of Conservation in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Oct. 6, 1942, in rural Slater, he was the son of the late John D. and Dorothy Kirby Van Winkle. On June 10, 1974, in Las Vegas, Nev., he married Jeannie Taylor, and she survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Brad Van Winkle and his wife, Chantay, of Independence, and Justin Van Winkle and his wife, Amanda, of rural Marshall; four grandchildren, Averi Van Winkle, Carter Van Winkle, Finnton Van Winkle and Greta Van Winkle; three sisters, Barbara Snow of Eugene, Ore., and Jennie Swarthout and Bettye Sakaguchi both of St. Charles, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Van Winkle.
Mr. Van Winkle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Slater, and a 1960 graduate of Slater High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and an avid deer and turkey hunter, and fisherman. He worked as an engineer for many years for Cody Sales & Engineers, Pritchell & Company, and AES Engineering before his retirement. He had lived in Independence for the last 40-plus years.
