Jeffrey Joseph ‘J.J.’ Samson

Jeffrey Joseph “J.J.” Samson, 66, of Hallsville, Mo., formerly of Saline County, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, at Parkside Manor in Columbia.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with the Rev. Dennis Stuart officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Gardens Cemetery with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Born June 13, 1956, in Marshall, he was the son of Joseph Austin “Joe” Samson and Doris Ann Chipley Samson, who survive of Malta Bend. J.J. was raised in the Malta Bend area and graduated from Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton in 1975. He lived in the Hallsville and Centralia area for several years and worked as a coach for Missouri School for the Deaf, as well as being a baseball and softball umpire. J.J. was an avid sports fan, enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, as well as cooking and gardening. While he had the passions previously listed, one of the things he enjoyed the very most was spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Joe and Doris Samson, of Malta Bend; he is also survived by the mother of their children, Rosa Lee Samson of Hallsville; their three children, Honey Wehmeyer (Doug) of Hallsville, Kris Samson (Dawn) of Winfield, and Jenni Benus (Ellis) of Millersburg; 14 grandchildren; four siblings, Tim Samson of Malta Bend, Linda Gauldin of Columbia, Sherri Schulte of Raymore, and Raymond Samson of Stover; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
