James Robert ‘Bob’ Landreth

May 7, 1947 – October 5, 2022

James Robert “Bob” Landreth, 75, of Marshall, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Inurnment with military rites will follow in Sunset Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. James Robert Landreth, the son of Earl William and Mary Elizabeth (Morgan) Landreth, was born May 7, 1947, in Marshall, Mo. Bob grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Navy on Feb. 25, 1966. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam all aboard the USS Constellation. During a leave from Vietnam, Bob married the love of his life, Amelia (Milly) Kick, in Winterhaven, Calif. He completed four years of service to the Navy. 

After the service, Bob and Milly moved to Libertyville, Ill., where both of their sons, Robert Christopher (Bob) and Shawn William were born. Bob worked in several sales positions with Gallo Wine and International Encyclopedias in Illinois. The family then moved to Huntsdale, Mo. While there, Bob completed an associate’s degree in Police Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia and worked as a Campus Police Officer. He started his career on the Railroad on the freight cars out of Slater, Mo. He worked for Illinois Central Gulf and then the remainder of his career with Amtrak, retiring as a conductor.

Bob loved fishing and deer hunting. More than anything he loved spending time with his family at Blueberry Ridge Resort on Truman Lake, Warsaw, Mo. He loved to BBQ and cook for family and friends. He will be dearly missed at Joan’s Drive-In where he loved to meet his friends for early morning coffee. He enjoyed being a Little League Coach and playing summer softball. 

While in the Navy, Bob received the following medals and commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star and one Silver Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was also a member of Malta Bend American Legion Post 558. 

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Earl William (Bill) Landreth. Survivors include wife Milly Landreth, of the home; children, Bob Landreth and wife Sally, Kansas City, Mo., and Shawn Landreth and girlfriend Michelle Czarnecki, Kenosha, Wisc.; grandsons, Nicholas and Danny Landreth, Kansas City, Mo., and Trevor Landreth, Kenosha, Wisc.; brother, Michael Dean (Mike) Landreth and wife Carlene; sisters-in-law, Doris Landreth, Marshall, Mo., Mary Ann Wilson, Marshall, Mo., Connie Sandidge, Springfield, Mo., Marcie (Jim) Smith, Zion, Ill.,  Peggy Ashcraft, Elmore, Ala., Pauline (Jeff), The Villages, Fla.; brother-in-law, Tim Kick, Zion, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
