May 24, 1951 — January 10, 2023 Edward P. Grimes, 71, of Slater, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Per his request, no services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post #78 in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born May 24, 1951, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Philip R. and Helen Hoener Grimes. On Nov. 28, 1970, in Slater, he married Rhonda Fox, and she survives of the home.

Also surviving are two sons, Bryan Grimes and his companion, Emily Hahn, of Slater, and Ryan Grimes of Slater; a daughter, Melissa Schure and her husband, Mike, of Slater; and seven grandchildren, Carley Grimes, Rylan Grimes, Emilee Grimes, Tanlea Grimes, Ava Hayes, Bracken Schure and Brooklyn Schure.

Mr. Grimes was a member of the First Baptist Church of Slater and was a 1969 graduate of Slater High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era, and a member of the American Legion Post #78 in Slater. He had worked as a farmer, grain hauler, mechanic, and in racetrack maintenance.
