A group of residents voiced their concerns on several state and federal issues, particularly with Medicaid, with a demonstration held Saturday, May 17.“It was a non-partisan group, neither left or right, of independent, concerned citizens who felt Marshall should raise our voices,” they told The Marshall Democrat-News. “It was an organic protest, because the Administration’s cuts hurt everyone, red and blue, young and old, from all parties … caring about others is not political. This is not a left or right moment; it’s a ‘righting a wrong’ moment for Marshall and the country.”The group gathered on the sidewalks at the corner of College Street and Miami Avenue. Some signs read “Honk for PBS/NRS fully funded,” “Honk for Democracy,” “Medicaid helps needy kids,” “Enough cuts,” “No Farm, No Food. Support Marshall’s Farmers,” “Make America CARE Again” and “Stop Project 2025.”One of the demonstrators stated they were issued a permit to use the sidewalks, and a flyer that was circulated drew approximately 40 people to participate in the demonstration. They hope to plan another demonstration in June. Contributed image
