Several people evacuated from the Walker C. Fletcher Athletic Complex on Friday morning, Feb. 10, after a fire broke out in the laundry room area. The Marshall Fire Department responded to the building, located on Morrow Street on the Missouri Valley College campus. According to a fire report, MFD personnel arrived shortly before 10:50 a.m. and found light smoke throughout the building. It was discovered one of the commercial dryers had caught fire. Someone in the building used an extinguisher prior to the fire department’s arrival, and later the power and gas to the dryer was shut off. MFD finished extinguishing the fire and ventilated the building. The fire remained contained, and no one was reportedly injured as a result. Sarah Gray/Democrat-News
