The Marshall Philharmonic Orchestra will continue its “Salute to 60 Season” on Sunday, Feb. 19. This third concert of the anniversary season will bring back one of the audience’s most requested and respected area professional pianists. Mia Kim, Professor of Piano and Head of the Piano Area at the University of Central Missouri – Warrensburg, first performed with MPO in 2011. On Sunday, Dr. Kim will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 with the orchestra and a contemporary solo work: The Garden of Eden Suite III, Rag Fantasy: “The Serpent’s Kiss,” written by American composer William Bolcom. This admission-free concert, underwritten by Community Bank of Marshall and Exchange Bank, will be held in the Harold L. Lickey Auditorium of Bueker Middle School in Marshall and will begin at 2:30 p.m. A meet-and-greet reception will immediately follow the concert.

It was a split of Heart of America Athletic Conference games for the Missouri Valley College basketball teams versus Peru State at the Burns Athletic Complex in Marshall Saturday. On Senior Day, senior Brecon Antrillo led four Lady Vikings in double-figure scoring, en route to a 79-60 win in the opener.

Lots of happy tears were shed Saturday at Missouri Valley College’s basketball games on Senior Day Saturday. Only eight days after sophomore point guard Jace Lance collapsed during a practice and had to be resuscitated by his father, Valley head coach Chad Lance, and athletic trainer Richelle Perkins with the aid of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Jace attended and, at times, helped coach the Vikings as they tangled with the Peru State Bobcats in a Heart of America Athletic Conference game at the Burns Athletic Center.

Three Marshall Lady Owl wrestlers are headed to the state tournament. Competing at the Class 1, District 2 Tournament at North Point High School in Wentzville Friday and Saturday, the top four competitors in each weight class earned spots at the state event.
Sometimes it pays to be a little lucky. Santa Fe junior Landon Hostetter was the man in the final minute for the Chiefs in their 36-35 I-70 Conference win at Concordia Friday.
It was a tough night for the Sweet Springs basketball teams at Saint Paul Friday. The Lady Greyhounds dropped the opener 32-22.
Playing without sophomore leading scorer Brandon Terrill, the shorthanded Slater Wildcats dropped an 83-42 Central Activities Conference game to Cairo Friday. In the opener, the Lady Bearcats beat Slater 75-30.
For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the Santa Fe Lady Chiefs have won the I70 Conference championship outright. The Lady Chiefs finished a perfect 7-0 run through the league slate with a 60-32 win at Concordia Friday.
