Next week is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Missouri and Kansas. A statewide tornado drill is scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 7. Saline County will be participating, so outdoor storm sirens will sound at that time.

Philharmonic to host 3rd concert of anniversary season

The Marshall Philharmonic Orchestra will continue its “Salute to 60 Season” on Sunday, Feb. 19. This third concert of the anniversary season will bring back one of the audience’s most requested and respected area professional pianists. Mia Kim, Professor of Piano and Head of the Piano Area at the University of Central Missouri – Warrensburg, first performed with MPO in 2011. On Sunday, Dr. Kim will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 with the orchestra and a contemporary solo work: The Garden of Eden Suite III, Rag Fantasy: “The Serpent’s Kiss,” written by American composer William Bolcom. This admission-free concert, underwritten by Community Bank of Marshall and Exchange Bank, will be held in the Harold L. Lickey Auditorium of Bueker Middle School in Marshall and will begin at 2:30 p.m. A meet-and-greet reception will immediately follow the concert.
