MJTA closes summer tennis season

The Marshall Junior Tennis Association completed a month of youth activities, including instruction and competition June 29. Sessions for the five age groups were held four mornings per week for some, three evenings a week for others split between the courts at Indian Foothills Park and Marshall High School.

Valley has 93 HAAC Scholar-Athletes

(MVC) — A total of 93 student-athletes from Missouri Valley College have earned recognition on the 2021-22 Heart of America Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete list, released by the conference. The Heart Scholar-Athlete list recognizes student-athletes competing in Heart championship sports that have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.4, or higher, accumulated a minimum of 60 credit hours, completed at least five semesters and have been enrolled at the college for at least two semesters.

Valley cowboys take third place at CNFR

CASPER, Wyo. — The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s rodeo teams finished competition at the 2022 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., Saturday. The teams produced one NIRA champion, one reserve national champion and four All-Americans. The men’s team finished third overall, and the women’s team placed ninth.

Owls make return to state tournament

Even in a sport without a clock, timing is everything. A Marshall baseball team which struggled through much of the season — taking a 7-17 record into the Class 4, District 13 Tournament at Odessa — cannot finish the campaign with a winning mark, but will wind up with the school’s second state trophy regardless.

Owls surprise Oak Grove in sectional

WARRENSBURG — What is Marshall doing among the state’s eight remaining Class 4 baseball teams? The Owls opened the season with five straight losses in Florida and entered the District 13 Tournament at Odessa — the venue for their last district title in 2014, with a 7-5 victory over Oak Grove — with a 7-17 record and No. 5 seed among six entries.
