Owls work out kinks at jamboree

Like most high school football teams in the state, the Marshall Owls played in a jamboree at California High School on Friday, Aug. 19, to work out kinks prior to their season opener. The Owls first took on the host Pintos and then tangled with the Tipton Cardinals. Father Tolton Regional Catholic also was there, but the Owls did not compete against the Trailblazers. On offense against California, the Owls managed one first down with their varsity, which accounted for the first 12 of the 18 plays. The highlight of the 18-play set was when sophomore Tashaun Johnson broke loose for a 40-yard touchdown run during the JV set. The Owls had some trouble consistently running the ball during the first 12 plays, but junior Jaxson Case completed one pass for eight yards to senior tight end Logan Alspaw. On defense, Marshall forced the Pintos into two fourth downs, but they converted both into first downs, and eventually scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run by the quarterback. But it came on the 15th play of the possession.
