Allowing six touchdowns in the middle two quarters proved to be too much for the Sweet Springs Greyhounds to overcome as they lost at Braymer/Breckenridge 74-38 Friday. “It was a very disappointing loss tonight,” SSHS head coach Jeff Holtzman said. “Braymer played very well and took advantage of turning our mistakes into points. “Defensively, our pass coverage was very poor, and we had too many missed tackles that led to them getting extra yards after contact.” Sweet Springs traded scores with the Bobcats but still trailed 16-14 at the end of one quarter. Braymer scored three of the five TDs in the second quarter and led 38-26 at intermission. It was a 6038 lead for Braymer going to the fourth quarter. “We came out in the third quarter only down two scores, had three stops in a row and let them convert on fourth and 20. That should not happen,” Holtzman said. The Greyhounds gave up 312 yards passing and 438 total yards to Braymer. Sweet Springs amassed 360 total yards, including 272 on the ground. Sweet Springs senior quarterback Blake Schroeder rushed for 215 yards and four touchdowns on runs of 23, 35, 2 and 35 yards. He also scored on a 23-yard fumble return. Junior wide receiver Seth Rader added 21 yards rushing and caught three passes for 65 yards, including a 38yarder for a score. “Offensively, we ran the ball very well at times and connected on some big passes,” Holtzman said. Defensively, the Greyhounds were led by Schroeder with 14 total tackles (three solo), a quarterback pressure, a fumble recovery and a pass break-up. Senior defensive end Dalyn Johnson had 12 total tackles (five solo), a tackle for loss and a QB pressure. Junior linebacker Tanner Dohrman added nine total tackles (three solo), a TFL, four QB pressures and a pass break-up. The 2-1 Greyhounds must move on and think about the Northwest Hughesville/Sacred Heart Mustangs. “We need to correct our mistakes (and) be much more focused on responsibilities,” Holtzman said. “W

Maclaren Senor’s Slater Lady Wildcats’ softball team recorded road wins over Sturgeon (11-6) and Hardin-Central (16-3 in five innings) over this past week. In the win over Sturgeon, the Lady ‘Cats scored five in the first inning, one in the second, one in the third and four in the sixth.

Ashton Sander’s Santa Fe Lady Chiefs’ volleyball team recorded two more wins this past week- downing Higginsville 25-22, 2521, 25-16 and Orrick 25-9, 25-9, 25-0, the latter being an I-70 Conference match.
