It was a tough night for the Marshall basketball teams on the road at North Central Missouri Conference foe Kirksville Tuesday. Kirksville swept the league doubleheader 61-26 in the girls game and 72-47 in the boys game.

Competition was very stiff at the Battle on the Katy Trail wrestling tournament in Sedalia Saturday. In the end, the Marshall Owls emerged with three wrestlers with .500 or better records.

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame has announced its latest induction class, and selected are long-time former Head Coach of the men’s wrestling program, and current Missouri Valley College Athletic Director Mike Machholz, along with the men’s wrestling teams from 1996-2005. Machholz was selected for induction after his 30 years of work building and leading the men’s wrestling program at Missouri Valley.
The Slater girls basketball team lost its last five games of the 2021-22 season and first nine games this year. The losing streak was halted at 14 when Rachel Harding’s Lady Wildcats built a double-digit lead in the second half and then held off a furious late charge by the Tuscumbia Lions to win 52-46 in the consolation semifinal of the Otterville Holiday Classic Monday.
Visiting Higginsville scored the first four points and 13 of the game’s first 16, en route to an 86-41 victory on Kevin Hart Court over the Marshall Owls Monday. The Huskers used an effective fastbreak to near perfection in racing to a 218 lead.

Two nights after the Santa Fe Lady Chiefs handed Carrollton its first loss, the Lady Chiefs lit up the nets at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Building on the State Fair Community College Campus in Sedalia in hammering Stover 55-28 as part of the annual W-K Shootout Saturday.
