In his first full season as head coach at Santa Fe, Tony Willis has led the Lady Chiefs to at least a tie for the I-70 Conference championship. The state-ranked Lady Chiefs pretty much breezed to a 49-21 win at Wellington Tuesday.
The Sweet Springs basketball teams had a busy week. The Lady ‘Hounds won their battle at Kingsville 49-45 Wednesday.

Over the years, numerous Marshall High School teams have claimed North Central Missouri Conference titles. The 2022-23 Lady Owls’ wrestling team has added its name to that list.
The Marshall Owl boys wrestling team finished its North Central Missouri Conference season with a 57-24 loss at Fulton Tuesday. The Owls won three and lost eight of the matches held.
Slater battled all the way back from as much as a 23-point deficit to defeat the homestanding Sweet Springs Greyhounds 78-72 Tuesday. Behind 50-31 at halftime, the Wildcats used 16 points from sophomore Brandon Terrill in a 33-11 third quarter to surge to a 64-61 lead.
Four nights after losing to Sweet Springs by double digits in the seventh- place game of the 42nd Annual Wildcat Classic, Rachel Harding’s Slater Lady Wildcats turned the tables and won 49-33 on the Lady ‘Hounds’ home floor Tuesday.
