Santa Fe has opened the 2023 baseball season with two straight losses. The Chiefs were shut out by Northwest of Hughesville 6-0 and beaten by KC Lutheran 7-1.
Winning three events and earning several other medals, the Marshall Lady Owls finished second in the final points standings at the Marshall Open Thursday. The Lady Owls, who also had two seconds, three thirds and one sixth, accumulated 120.5 points.
MVC Athletics The Missouri Valley College rodeo programs continued competition over the weekend at the Pearl River (Miss.) rodeo in Poplarville, Miss. Both teams finished first overall in the standings, with three event winners in the average.
MVC Athletics The Missouri Valley College baseball team was in Olathe, Kan., Monday afternoon to open a Heart of America Athletic Conference series against MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) with a doubleheader. Playing as the home team, the Vikings had a late rally fall short in the first game, in a 4-3 defeat, and dropped game two, 8-2.

Playing tough competition is nothing new for the Sweet Springs Lady Greyhounds’ softball team. The Lady ‘Hounds, who have won a district title in five of the last six years, take on all comers, including some of the best teams in the state, year after year.
Paul Alberson’s Marshall Owls’ baseball team is off to an 0-4 start, but two of the three games have been decided by one run. The Owls opened the season with a 3-2 loss to Sacred Heart at home March 20.
