Go ahead … or maybe not

When I woke up in the wee hours of this morning (in the still very dark hours), I had a song running relentlessly through my brain. Mind you, this is not an unusual experience for me. This time was a little different, however, because of the song itself. Combined with the state the world is in these days, it struck me as odd that, seemingly out of nowhere, this particular song should find its way into my semi-sleepless night and then hang with me most of the day.

To the editor, If you’re from Saline County or if you’ve lived in the Marshall area a long time, you likely have heard about our wonderful Indian Foothills Park pool. Maybe even from your parents and grandparents. If you’re even more lucky, you have enjoyed the park and all its amenities. Editor, We take our little grandsons to our local airport often, as they (and we) enjoy watching planes. One day recently our vehicle malfunctioned. The employee on duty was very helpful by calling help as we had no phone. The employees at Marshall airport serve as “goodwill ambassadors” to pilots and our town businesses, as they help pilots and families coming in waiting to know where to rent cars, stay, eat, tour, golf, swim, play, et cetera. We are curious as to why these employees may no longer be hired in the near future? They keep our airport clean, help in loading and unloading, help with runway lights and safety, reading fuel meters, et cetera. Restrooms and offices are cleaned. Trash taken care of. The mow and keep the area very welcoming. Here’s to behind-thescenes workers at our airport. Keep them! Who will do their jobs if these positions are eliminated?

It seems that he lives his life, at times, with an air of melancholy surrounding him. You know, that sense of pensive sadness that appears to have no obvious origin or impetus. It just comes upon him at random times, leaving those closest to him to ask questions about his wellbeing.
