GERD is more than just heartburn

Dear Doctors: I'm a 44-year-old man, and I'm a bit overweight. I've been having trouble with what I thought was heartburn, but my doctor says it's actually something called GERD. How is that different from heartburn? She prescribed medication, but I wonder what else I can do that might help.

Children’s Book Corner

Soldier of peace

His name was Peter. Early on in his life, he had been a member of the special forces of what was, then, the Soviet Union. The boy and the puppy

Jesus tells us that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, and when ask who is our neighbor He tells the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10: 30 35 who takes time to help a man who he did not know who had been beaten and robbed and left for dead alongside the road. I love the chill in the morning air, the changing colors all through the forest, and the leaves blowing around before falling to the ground. I’m not sure why, but the fall of the year seems to have always been a magical time for me. I especially love fall here at Shiloh.

Truth of love: Honor

I was a passenger in a car, and we rear-ended the van in front of us at a yield sign. I got out to evaluate and mediate. My driver friend stayed in the car phoning their spouse (and insurance agent) to control their temper.

Go ahead … or maybe not

When I woke up in the wee hours of this morning (in the still very dark hours), I had a song running relentlessly through my brain. Mind you, this is not an unusual experience for me. This time was a little different, however, because of the song itself. Combined with the state the world is in these days, it struck me as odd that, seemingly out of nowhere, this particular song should find its way into my semi-sleepless night and then hang with me most of the day.
