MSDC, employers discuss lack of childcare in Saline County

On Friday, July 22, representatives from some of Saline County’s largest employers met at Montague’s in Marshall to discuss what has been deemed a childcare crisis across the country. Marshall- Saline Development Corporation Executive Director Cydney Mayfield brought the Childcare Round Table together after hearing about the severe shortage of childcare options in the area.

Candidates of contested local races give statements

Six candidates are vying for county positions in next Tuesday’s election: Recorder of Deeds, Presiding Commissioner and County Clerk. They were each asked to provide brief biographies, why they are the best candidate for the position, and to explain something they would like to see happen within their position or for the county. Recorder of Deeds candidates are Jessica Baker and Amie Ragan-Brown. Presiding Commissioner candidates are Kile Guthrey Jr. and Becky Plattner. County Clerk candidates are Carrie Jarvis and Brittni Burton. Jarvis was not able to provide a statement by the time of publication.

American Legion 558 wins awards at Department of Missouri convention

Malta Bend’s American Legion Post No. 558 held their 2023 officer swearing-in ceremony at their regular business meeting on Monday, July 18. In addition, Post Adjutant Steve Olson, who attended the recent American Legion Department of Missouri convention, gave members a rundown of convention highlights, and Post 558’s awards in the Department’s competition.
