David Reinke has been chosen to continue his career in the Marshall School District as the assistant superintendent. He is a distinguished educator with over 20 years of experience in education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Arkansas-Monticello. Reinke also earned his master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Educational Specialist degrees from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.
The Marshall School District Board of Education met in special session on Wednesday, May 11, to go into a closed session and discuss personnel matters. According to the unofficial meeting minutes, the board unanimously approved David Reinke as assistant superintendent on a three-year contract for $117,000.
Sweet Springs City Clerk Michelle Fuehring informed the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen on Monday night, May 9, that Marshall-Saline Economic Development Corporation will create a new logo for the city.
The Saline County Career Center recognized 11 students recently by awarding them the Career and Technical Education certificate. In 2016, the Missouri General Assembly passed legislation requiring the State Board of Education and the CTE Advisory Council to establish the requirements for the CTE certificate. The certificate is earned in addition to the student’s graduating high school diploma. This is the second year graduating students were eligible to earn the CTE certificate.
During a regular Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen meeting on Monday, May 9, Alderman Boyd Jones stated he would like to have an ordinance fix the one regarding burning. According to the unofficial meeting minutes, he wants the ordinance tos state that residents may burn yard waste in a ditch or in their yard.
Marshall Chapter of NSDAR awarded Marshall High School senior Leah Weaver and Sweet Springs High School senior Donavan Hoyes each with Chapter Achievement Awards on May 6. Missouri Valley College conferred 247 degrees to students this past weekend at the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7, at 2 p.m. on the Gregg-Mitchell Field on the campus. The class of 2022 consisted of 232 undergraduate students and 15 students graduating from the college’s graduate programs in community counseling and education administration.
“The results of our latest air quality tests were negative for existence of formaldehyde at a dangerous level,” Marshall School District Superintendent Carol Maher said in an email on Monday, May 9.
Marshall Municipal Services Director Bill Anderson reported on Friday, May 6, that the mill and overlay pro gram would begin on Monday, May 9. “The schedule is to start milling on Slater Street Monday morning immediately after school is in session as to not interfere with the already hectic traffic,” he said.
