The Marshall School District Board of Education met in a special session on Wednesday, May 18, at noon. Board members were in attendance via Zoom to call the meeting to order and adjourn in closed session to discuss legal actions involving the district, attorney communications and actions or records relating to students.
The Marshall Chamber of Commerce announced on Wednesday, May 18, that the Saline County Historical Society is moving to a new location. SCHS needs help to relocate fragile artifacts and organize important items.

The residents of Blackburn will be safer in the event of severe weather after a new outdoor storm siren was installed Monday, May 16. The previous siren had a push button to sound an alarm, requiring someone to physically drive to the siren in the event of severe weather.
Former Marshall Councilwoman Phesa Wright approached members of the council on Monday night, May 16, to recommend another woman — who is interested to do the job — to take the seat for Ward 4. “She’s a math teacher at Marshall High School, some of you may know her,” Wright continued.
In lieu of recent events, Marshall School District Superintendent Carol Maher shared the following statement on Sunday evening, May 15: Because a multitude of information and misinformation is being spread throughout the community about recent events involving members of the Marshall High School family, this statement is made to ensure Marshall Public Schools communicates using appropriate and accurate information based on facts, not hearsay. The Board of Education and MPS Administration strongly encourage all Marshall residents to allow the proper procedures to take place so all involved may be represented fairly.
Emergency Management Director Tony Day shared with the Saline County Commission on Thursday morning, May 12, the department is working on communication issues. “Communication is all important in any incident or catastrophe, and it’s always an issue on every exercise … so we’ve been working on it,” he said.
Marshall Public Schools Superintendent Carol Maher reported that a small group of Marshall High School students protested on Thursday, May 12, the district’s inaction concerning an incident that occurred over the weekend, off school property.
