JEFFERSON CITY — Senator Denny Hoskins (R-Warrensburg) reminds nonprofit organizations the deadline for submitting applications for Missouri Humanities major grants is Aug. 1. Civic, educational and cultural groups may apply for grants up to $10,000 to help finance humanities-based projects.
Missouri’s August 2 primary election is right around the corner and inperson absentee voting has begun. You can vote absentee at your local election authority until 5 p.m.

“We are really happy to have Tom Sawyer here — John Whitaker,” Friends of Arrow Rock Executive Director Jeff Kurtti said Saturday morning, July 2. Additionally, the Arrow Rock State Historic Site was glad to welcome “Tom Sawyer” (1973) actor Joshua Hill Lewis, who played Cousin Sidney, and Whitaker’s sister Mary.
After performing earlier this week for their annual Fourth of July concert, the Marshall Municipal Band has done a quick turn-around and prepared a brand-new concert for this Thursday evening. “I can’t express how proud I am of these wonderful musicians,” says director Kevin Lines.
The Board of Education of the Marshall School District held a retreat on Wednesday, June 29, at 9 a.m. in the Malcolm Center on the Missouri Valley College campus.
