The Smith Chapel Cemetery annual board of directors meeting is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1. The meeting will take place at the church sanctuary. Everyone is invited to attend.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a free atlatl workshop on June 3, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Columbia at the Boone County Nature School. An atlatl is a device that propels a dart, like a large arrow, and was used for hunting in prehistoric times. Atlatls were approved for hunting small game in Missouri in 2007 and for deer hunting in 2010.

CAPE GIRARDEAU — Southeast Missouri State University has announced Cameron Brown of Marshall has made its President’s List for undergraduate academic achievement during the spring 2025 semester.
Memorial Day weekend brings Missouri to life with busy state parks, lakes, and attractions, along with sporting events, barbecues, and gatherings of friends and family. Our state has a lot to offer, especially when the weather is nice. A little planning will go a long way to making Memorial Day weekend activities a success. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reminds everyone to include safety when they plan their holiday weekend. Everyone should expect more travelers on Missouri’s roadways and an increase in boating traffic on the state’s lakes and rivers. Drivers and boat operators are reminded to follow all of Missouri’s laws and be courteous. Always wear a seat belt when traveling in a vehicle, and wear a life jacket when near, on, or in the water.
The idea of providing public transportation has been discussed by various Marshall groups in the past decade. Now, a transportation committee under the Saline County Inter-Agency Council is moving forward with the research process and looking for community feedback.

The Malta Bend Memorial Post 558 will be holding a Memorial Day service on Monday, May 26, at the Malta Bend Cemetery. The service will begin at 11 a.m. Community members are encouraged to bring a folding chair, and possibly an umbrella in the event of inclement weather.
Friday, May 23: Meatloaf; mashed potatoes and gravy; California vegetables; wheat roll; cinnamon apples or chocolate cake.
