Friends of Pennytown holds annual reunion

Friends of Pennytown held an annual reunion on Sunday, Aug. 7, which included a church service inside Pennytown Freewill Baptist Church. Pennytown is a historic black hamlet located approximately 8 miles south of Marshall, and the church is the only structure that remains. According to information on the organization’s website, approximately 40 families lived in the township, which covered 64 acres of land. The church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Pictured on the top right is Virginia Huston, who was the last person born at Pennytown.

Total Brain Health class begins Aug. 9 on Zoom

Care Connection for Aging Services is accepting registration for the next Total Brain Health class that beginsonline on Aug. 9. Total Brain Health concentrates on body (physical fitness), mind (cognitive training that can revive skills diminished by age), and spirit (strong satisfying socialties). The philosophy is that all minds can thrive, and the class delivers tools everyone can use to build better brain health. Research shows that these programs empower participants to build better brain health. Satisfactionratings are 99 percent.

The Marshall High School Class of 1962 held its 60-year reunion on July 16, 2022.
