The Marshall Writers’ Guild met Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Marshall Public Library. Present were Vice-President Sharon Eiker-Dyer, Holly Forsman, Pat Hammer, Carol Raynor, Sean Rea, President Ed Richards, Treasurer Carole Schaefer, Secretary Sidney Sullivan, Virginia Sprigg, and guests Stacey Ballenger and Wicky Sleight. Absent were Melanie Dees Campbell, Rayvin Freeman, Pat Hammer, Eveleth Hill, Anmarie Gibson, Vince Lutterbie, Ed and Authorene Phillips, and the Rev. Mary Williams.

Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces Lieutenant Colonel Lance M. MacLaughlin, assistant superintendent of the Patrol, will retire Dec. 1, 2022, after 27 years, four months of dedicated service.

Join the Salt Fork YMCA to enjoy a sausage and pancake breakfast as they will have Mr. and Mrs. Claus present for pictures as well as games and crafts for the kids to enjoy. Breakfast courtesy of the Knights of Columbus. All proceeds will go to the YMCA Annual Campaign. There is a nominal registration fee, which can be paid online or at the front desk now through Dec. 3. Breakfast with Santa will take place from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
Malta Bend Memorial Post 558 hosted their annual fish fry at their meeting hall on Monday, Nov. 14. In addition to those from Post 558, members from Zone 2, Seventh District, Concordia and Slater posts, Department Historian Jerome Goolsby, Department Commander Rose Noonan, and others attended. In closing comments at the event, Cmdr. Noonan was presented a $500 donation from Post 558 for the 2022-2023 Commander’s Project, “Operation Comfort Warriors.”
In past years, the Educators Rising program, run by Saline County Career Center teacher Danielle Callanan, has been known to do a yearly canned food drive for participating student projects for the class. This year, the drive has been revamped into a Gently-Used Book Drive, an opportunity for individuals to bring in books that have been collecting dust on their shelves and donate them for better use.
On Tuesday, Nov. 8, Marshall High School students attended the Division of Science, Math, and Computer Science at Central Methodist University. For the high school division, students participated in the 2022 Dr. Harold Momberg Math and Science Competition. This was for the ninth through 12th grade category.
