The Optimist Club of Marshall held its regular meeting on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Bloomfield’s Family Restaurant. President Matt Pennock led the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and Kenneth Ray Clause offered the in‐vocation. It was noted that the club had received acknowledgments from the families of club mem‐bers that had recently suffered losses. Our club has been notified by Opti‐mist International that it has received honor club status for last year under the leadership of Chad Unterreinner.
Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Malta Bend School, and Malta Bend Memorial Post 558 held their first blood drive for 2023 on Wednesday, Jan. 18. A total of 47 donors were able to donate 48 units of blood, the highest number ever at the Malta Bend blood drives. This resulted from 38 whole blood units and 10 ALYX (double red blood cell) units.
The Marshall Writ‐ers’ Guild met on Thursday, Jan. 19, at Marshall Public Li‐brary. Present: Vice‐ President Sharon Eiker‐Dyer, Holly Fors‐man, Sean Rea, Treas‐urer Carole Schaefer, Wicky Sleight, Virginia Sprigg, Secretary Sid‐ney Sullivan, Mary Williams, and guest James Beeler. Absent: Melanie Dees Campbell, Rayvin Freeman, Pat Hammer, Eveleth Hill, Vince Lutterbie, Ed and Authorene Phillips, President Ed Richards, and Carol Raynor.
During the annual Missouri Association of Rural Education/MO K‐8 Association Conference this past fall, Mrs. Carey Johnson, Hardeman R‐X superintendent, was rec‐ognized as the Missouri K‐8 Administrator of the Year. The value of Mrs. Johnson’s leadership is beyond measure, and the Hardeman School District is grateful to have her expertise and experience as they con‐tinue to strive for excel‐lence.

OLATHE, Kansas - MidAmerica Nazarene University recently announced its President's, Dean's List and Honor Roll for the Fall 2022 semester. A total of 423 students qualified for one of the honors. All students in traditional programs carrying 12 semester hours or more with a term GPA from 3.2 to 4.0 may qualify for one of these academic honors. Neutral credit hours are excluded from the calculation and reduce the course load used to figure the honor. The President's List is a 4.0 grade point average for the semester; Dean's List ranges from 3.5 to 3.99; and the Honor Roll is 3.2 to 3.49. Area students named to the lists are: Madisyn Garrison, Honor Roll; and Zachary Martinez, Dean’s List. MidAmerica Nazarene University is a private, Christian, liberal arts university of approximately 2,000 students. Offering 50 traditional undergraduate areas of study and 11 pre-professional programs, the university is also known for its accelerated professional and graduate programs.
The Marshall Kiwanis Club held its regular meeting at noon, Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Montague’s.
On Jan. 4, SCCC DECA received a generous sponsorship from CFM Insurance Inc., of Concordia. The donation of $2,000 will help support and sustain the chapter funding this year. Over 30 members are preparing for competition this year. The competition is during the spring semester starting with district competition, which is held at UMKC on Feb. 1. State competition will be March 12-14 in Kansas City, Mo., near Crown Center. This year, the International Competition will be held in Orlando, Fla., on April 21-26.
