4-H clubs collect 433 items for food pantry

The new 4-H year kicked off Oct. 1-7. Different activities were planned throughout the week for the youth. They started by having the clubs decorate scarecrows, which were placed on display at Springwater Greenhouse and Landscaping. Instead of placing votes, the 4-H clubs asked the community to bring in a canned good to count as a vote, and all proceeds would go to the Community Food Pantry on West Morgan Street in Marshall. 4-H specialists with the MU Extension office stated they are delighted with the community support. They were able to donate 433 items to the pantry. The scarecrows decorated by 4-H members can be viewed on the MU Extension 4-H Saline County Facebook page.

Then they remembered the saying “lift where you stand.” Tom, a retired maintenance planner, considered what they would have to do to simply lift the structure and walk it over to the new spot.
