The Marshall Writers’ Guild met Thursday, Dec. 21, after a lunch at Claudia’s Bed and Breakfast. Present were Vice-President Sharon Eiker-Dyer, Holly Forsman, Sean Rea, President Ed Richards, Treasurer Carole Schaefer, Secretary Sidney Sullivan, the Rev. Mary Williams, guests Katherine Falls, Matt Rahner, Sally Swisher, and Shannon Williams. Absent were Melanie Dees Campbell, Rayvin Freeman, Pat Hammer, Eveleth Hill, Mayor Vince Lutterbie, Ed and Authorene Phillips, Carol Raynor, Irene Sims, Wicky Sleight and Virginia Sprigg.
The Optimist Club of Marshall recently held its annual holiday coloring contest at Miami, Orearville, and Hardeman schools. Grades kindergarten, first and second participated. The winner from each grade received a framed picture and a Walmart gift card.
President Matt Pennock called the meeting of the Optimist Club of Marshall to order on Saturday, Dec. 23, at Bloomfield’s Family Restaurant.
The Marshall Community Chorus, directed by Ron Sayer, presents its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 17, at First Christian Church. The 40-voice choir held two concerts over the weekend, the first took place Saturday evening. They featured both traditional and contemporary pieces.

The Marshall Kiwanis Club held its regular meeting at noon Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Montague’s. Jack Lenz offered the invocation, and Club President Pam LaFrenz led the Pledge of Allegiance and called the meeting to order with 23 members and two guests in attendance.
