Malta Bend Post 558 updated on sponsored school-competition trip

Danielle Callanan, a Teaching Professions Instructor and Saline County Career Center Instructional Coach, and Liberty Gotmer gave members of the Malta Bend American Legion Post 558 an update on a recent Educators Rising Conference and Competition. The Post and other area organizations helped sponsor the trip. The conference and competition was held June 26-30 in Washington, D.C., and was attended by all six members of Educators Rising from Saline County. All members were able to participate in the competition, while two members placed in the top 10 competitors in the United States. Lily Wade took third place in the competition, while Taylor Boyd took fourth place. In addition, Liberty Gotmer, Maddison Zdybel and Isabella Chevalier all placed in the top 20 competitors in the United States.

Marshall FFA attends national convention

Fourteen members of the Marshall FFA chapter attended the 95th annual National FFA Convention at the end of October. Students had the opportunity to attend multiple leadership sessions led by the National FFA Officer Team, as well as getting to attend the Exposition, where they got to meet industry leaders to discuss their futures and current topics in agriculture. On the way to the convention, they stopped at the St. Louis Arch for a tour.

American Legion Posts to help Lafayette, Saline, Howard, Benton, Pettis, and Hickory County veterans

INDIANAPOLIS (November 1, 2022) – Military veterans in and around Lafayette, Saline, Howard, Benton, Pettis and Hickory Counties are invited for a special service session hosted by American Legion Post 642 located at 2016 W Main St. in Sedalia on November 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. American Legion staff will be available to discuss veterans’ benefits, the Legion’s legislative efforts, membership opportunities and service to the community. A veterans service officer will be available to discuss claims and other benefits questions. In keeping with the over 100 years of tradition of The American Legion, the American Legion posts in this area will focus on community service and assistance to veterans. The scope and nature of the posts’ community service is determined by its members and with input from local civic and community officials.
