The Marshall Kiwanis Club held its regular meeting at noon, Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Montague’s.
On Jan. 4, SCCC DECA received a generous sponsorship from CFM Insurance Inc., of Concordia. The donation of $2,000 will help support and sustain the chapter funding this year. Over 30 members are preparing for competition this year. The competition is during the spring semester starting with district competition, which is held at UMKC on Feb. 1. State competition will be March 12-14 in Kansas City, Mo., near Crown Center. This year, the International Competition will be held in Orlando, Fla., on April 21-26.
COOPER COUNTY (Jan. 3, 2023) — The private pesticide applicator license issued by the Missouri Department of Agriculture is required for producers wanting to purchase and apply restricted use pesticides.
The Marshall City Council called a regular meeting to order on Tuesday night, Jan. 3, and reviewed a proposed ordinance for appropriation. The council unanimously approved the proposal in both a first and second reading.
Thanks to Malta Bend Memorial Post 558’s bingo players and others, the Marine Corps Reserves annual Toys for Tots program benefited again this year with toys and cash donations. Many unwrapped toys and over $450 dollars were donated to the program, much of which was from bingo players.

On Friday, Dec. 16, SCCC DECA marketing students Avery Evans, Michelle Lin, Kaylen Alvarez, Devin Hughes, Lauren Chaney-King, Ingrid Aguilar-Garcia, Kimberly Fuentes and Trevor Watkins along with their DECA Advisor Kerry Henley and Community Volunteer Katie Shannon brought over 150 Christmas stockings to the service men and women of Whiteman Air Force Base and received a special tour of the base during their visit.

The Marshall Writers’ Guild gathered Thursday, Dec. 15, for its holiday meeting at Claudia’s Bed and Breakfast with Claudia’s delicious luncheon preceding the meeting. Present were Melanie Dees Campbell, Vice-President Sharon Eiker-Dyer, Pat Hammer, Carol Raynor, Sean Rea, President Ed Richards, Treasurer Carole Schaefer, Secretary Sidney Sullivan, Virginia Sprigg, the Rev. Mary Williams, and guests Donna Blumhorst and Wicky Sleight. Absent were Ray Freeman, Eveleth Hill, Holly Forsman, Anmarie Gibson, Vince Lutterbie, and Ed and Authorene Phillips.
