At the 100th annual Marshall Chamber of Commerce Banquet, held Thursday, June 16, Fitzgibbon Hospital was presented with the 2022- 2023 Outstanding Business of the Year. Angy Littrell, President and CEO of Fitzgibbon Hospital received the award from Sandy Hisle, President of the Marshall Chamber.
Rick Darling, a longtime member of Malta Bend Memorial Post 558, was awarded a Quilt of Valor® at Monday night’s meeting for his military service. Donna Rothermich, a member of Quilts of Valor® Foundation, made the quilt for the presentation.
Members of Malta Bend’s American Legion Post 558 performed their annual flag retirement ceremony on June 14 — Flag Day — at the Post home. Over 150 flags, many of which had been deposited at the flag drop boxes at the Knights of Columbus hall and the Saline County Courthouse, were retired.

The Slater School District held May graduation ceremonies for both the preschool and eighth grade. For the eighth-grade graduation, Emily Anderson won the Daughters of the American Youth Citizenship Award. Ben Gochenour, Kendall Guthrie and Robert James Pannell IV won the American Legion Award.
