We all know that enthusiasm is contagious, isn’t it? When you are around someone who is enthusiastic, you feel more energized and excited. Of course, if enthusiasm is contagious, then lack of enthusiasm must be contagious too, right?
The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen met Monday, Sept. 8, taking action on several items ranging from employee drug testing to new rules at the city dump.
The deadline to submit brick applications for the Veterans Memory Walk of Honor pavers is fast approaching. To purchase a brick, pick up an application at any of the following locations: the Collector’s Office, Recorder’s Office or Treasurer’s Office in the Saline County Courthouse, or at Ann Hisle State Farm Insurance Office. Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, Oct. 1, for them to be installed this year.

During a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 10, Controller Tony Bersano asked the Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works to authorize its president to sign a letter of understanding for the upcoming Sept. 30, audit with Gerding, Korte & Chitwood.
Chad Meyer’s Santa Fe Chiefs built a 30-16 lead early in the fourth quarter at Northland Christian. Then the Chiefs held on — literally — to win the game 30-22.
Junior Drayton Hampton passed for two touchdowns, rushed for another; senior Joey Rapp scored twice on the ground; junior Jacob Rapp scored two ground TDs and one through the air; and senior Jason Gonzalez caught a TD pass, as Sweet Springs accumulated 369 yards of total offense.
After suffering straight-set losses at Sacred Heart, at home versus Kirksville and at home to Fulton, the Marshall Lady Owls’ volleyball squad put things together to earn its first win of the 2025 season Monday, Sept. 8, on Kevin Hart Court in the Jim Hargrave Gymnasium.
