JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Transportation was recently awarded a national grant to help fund a youth safety initiative known as “traffic gardens.” The grant, awarded by the Governors Highway Safety Association and the National Road Safety Foundation, includes $25,000 to increase the use of the traffic gardens across the state.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows young turkey hunters in Missouri harvested 4,428 birds over the past youth weekend, April 12-13. Top harvest counties were Osage with 107 birds harvested, Gasconade with 105, and Texas with 94.
The Marshall Lady Owls track and field team — spurred on by a pair of first-place finishes — claimed a tie for fifth place in the 10-school Hoot Middleton Invite at Richmond April 15.
The Marshall Police Department responded to the following calls from April 15-17, 2025:
MARSHALL - Marshall Municipal Utilities has received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2024. The recognition comes from the American Public Power Association (APPA), a trade group that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.
The University of Central Missouri recently presented the 2025 Who’s Who at UCM and Charno Awards to outstanding members of the senior class. Of the roughly 1,300 undergraduate students graduating in 2024-25, only 14 were selected for Who’s Who.
LAFAYETTE & SALINE COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will be closing Route Y over Interstate 70 near Emma beginning Mon., April 21 for a bridge replacement. The project is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 1, 2025. All work is weather permitting.
Scoring in the first, third and fifth frames, the Slater Wildcats came away with a 6-4 victory at home over the Fayette Falcons April 16.
The Marshall Writers’ Guild monthly meeting was held March 20 in the Marshall Public Library Community Room. The meeting was called to order by President Sharon Dyer.
