Talented returners could lead Owls’ soccer team back to state tourney

Getting back to team play, head coach Justin Van Winkle is hopeful his Marshall Owls soccer team can reach the state tournament once again in 2024.Van Winkle, who is entering his 13th season as MHS’ mentor, led the Owls to their first-ever state championship on the pitch in 2022, but they slipped back to finish 12-10 in 2023.“Last year, the boys knew people were coming for us, and this year, the boys realize that we’ve got to work even harder,” Van Winkle said.

Riley Wilkinson one of eight starters back for Lady Owls on diamond

This could be the year for the Marshall lady Owls’ softball team.Although the Lady Owls have struggled the past few years, they might just be up for the challenge this year with eight starters returning, including first-team all-conference slugger Riley Wilkinson, who is now a senior.As a junior, Wilkinson, who also pitches quite a bit of the time, amassed a .540 batting average and cracked eight home runs, breaking the previous season record for the Lady Owls.

Six seniors on roster of MHS volleyball team

With a roster that numbers nearly 40, first-year Marshall Lady Owls’ volleyball head coach Madison Kisner is hoping for good things.But she must find replacements for six seniors — first-team, all-conference player Ella Verts and Nicole Quintana, Bianette Hernandez, Ava Shepard, Candice Smith and Jaylynn Morrison.
