Wildcat gridders blank another opponent
Seniors Chase Hemeyer and Brandon Terrill led the way, and the visiting Slater Wildcats improved their record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Central River League’s South Division with an 84-0 triumph at the BKN Thunder in Keytesville last Friday night.It was the second straight shutout for the ‘Cats after they blanked Santa Fe 82-0 in week four.The ‘Cats raced away to a 46-0 lead by the end of the first 12 minutes and led 62-0 at intermission.
‘Hounds, Chiefs lose homecoming games
Sweet Springs scored five touchdowns but it wasn’t enough versus the visiting Wellington Tigers last Friday night.The Tigers spoiled Sweet Springs’ homecoming 54-38 in a Central River League I-70 Division game.Wellington led the close game after each quarter – 14-8, 32-22 and 46-38.“I am very pleased with how hard our kids competed,” SSHS head coach Jeff Holtzman said.
Mach, Durham lead Lady Owl golfers to triangular win
Playing on their home course, the Marshall lady Owls’ golf team won a triangular match versus Glasgow and Moberly Sept.
Kirksville spoils Owls’ homecoming
In week four, mistakes on the first two kickoffs of the game put the Marshall Owls behind by two touchdowns.The Owls cleaned up that part of their game for week five, but the visiting Kirksville Tigers were still able to get several short fields and proved tough to stop.The Tigers scored 20 points in each half and won the North Central Missouri Conference matchup 40-0 on Cecil Naylor Field.The win kept the Tigers unbeaten on the season — 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NCMC.
MHS harriers compete at Gans Creek meet
More than 230 girls competed in the girls’ 5K race at the Gans Creek cross-country meet in Columbia last Saturday.Although not medaling, the Lady Owls had several PRs (personal-record times) or close to it, according to head coach Amanda Van Winkle.Leading the finishers for the Lady owls was sophomore Melissa Reyes in 88th place in 23 minutes, 40.3 seconds.Van Winkle said senior Eliza Papreck ran the best she has since her freshman season when she turned in a time of 24:08.1 for 110th place.Sophomore Teresa Fuentes-Romero improved on her PR “by a lot,” according to Van Winkle.
Lady Owl netters defeat Chillicothe
By winning five of the six singles matches, the Marshall Lady Owls’ tennis team defeated the visiting Chillicothe Hornets 6-3 to celebrate Senior Night at the MHS tennis facility Monday night.The Lady Owls won the Nos.
Green wins 200, Owls third at Hannibal swim meet
Led by freshman Hudson Green’s win in the 200-yard freestyle event, the Marshall Owls’ swim team accumulated 50 points and finished third at the meet at Hannibal on Sept.
Owls suffer first loss on soccer pitch
In another close battle on the soccer pitch with the Hannibal Pirates, the Marshall Owls came up just short.After the two teams batted to a scoreless draw through the first half and 14 minutes of the second half, the Pirates netted the game’s only goal off a free kick in a 1-0 decision on the Pirates’ home turf last Saturday.A foul was called on the Owls about 25 yards from the MHS goal on the left side with just over 26 minutes remaining.Pirate senior Kevin Westhoff curled his shot toward the goal over the top of all the MHS defenders and HHS attackers.
Lady Owls split four games on diamond
The Marshall Lady Owls walked it off in a 3-2 win over Boonville Monday night at the MHS Sports Complex.Through a seven-inning battle, the Marshall Lady Owls’ softball team had many chances to score more than two runs.
