MHS harriers compete at district

More than 175 runners competed for the right to advance to the Class 4 state cross-country meet for boys and girls at the Class 4, District 4 meet at Jesse James Park in Kearney last Saturday.To advance, runners needed to finish in the top 30 or be a member of one of the top four teams on the girls’ or boys’ side.In the girls’ race, Lady Owl sophomore Teresa Fuentes-Romero was 44th in 23:32.61.

MSHP stops naming victims in online crash reports

On November 1 at 3 p.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol announced a modification to the preliminary online reports for traffic crashes and boat/drowning incidents, stating that the names of the parties involved will no longer be displayed online.The Patrol was recently notified of scam incidents across the state targeting motor vehicle crash victims and/or individuals associated with someone who was involved in a crash.

Lady Chiefs headed to Final Four

For the second time this decade, the Santa Fe Lady Chiefs’ volleyball team is headed to the Class 1 Final Four.Ashton Sander’s Lady Chiefs earned their right to play at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau by hammering out a straight-set win over host Rock Port in the state quarterfinals last Saturday.The Lady Chiefs held off a late charge by Rock Port to win the opening set 25-22 and then controlled play in the second and third sets, winning those 25-13, 25-11.Santa Fe looked as though it was going to breeze to a win in the first set, but the Lady Blue Jays rallied with nine straight points, turning a 24-13 deficit into just a two-point hole.Sander strategically called a time-out to calm her players.“I just had to remind the girls that ‘all we need to do is side-out here.
