The Marshall Lady Owls had their chances to beat Macon last Friday night.
The Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s basketball teams traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader against Mount Mercy (Iowa), Saturday afternoon. The women’s team fell by a final score of 84-64. The men’s team came back from a halftime deficit to earn an 82-73 win.
The No. 15 Missouri Valley College men’s wrestling team finished the Missouri Valley Invitational Saturday inside the Burns Athletic Complex. The event featured 50 NAIA programs, including 21 ranked teams and more than 500 wrestlers. The Vikings produced one finalist, two placers and finished fifth in the team standings.
In the first 4-1/2 minutes, the Marshall Owls — as first-year head coach Mike Varner likes to put it “fed the beast” — and junior Brody Kueker came through with three baskets to keep Marshall within one.
Along with finishing ninth among the 16 teams, the Marshal Lady Owls’ swimmers set several new personal-record times at the two-day Pirate Invitational in Belton Jan. 24 and 25.
