Alvin Leslie Dial

August 31, 1945 – April 2, 2023 Alvin Leslie Dial, 77, of Blackburn, Mo., died Sun‐day, April 2, 2023, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Blackburn with William W. Harlow offici‐ating. Burial with mili‐tary rites will follow at Blackburn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Born Aug. 31, 1945, in rural Nelson, Mo., he was the son of the late Edgar Leslie Dial and Cecil Noreen Cureton Dial. Alvin was raised in the Nel‐son area and was a 1963 graduate of Nelson High School. On Aug. 15, 1965, he married Carolyn Gre‐gory, who survives of the home. He was a United States Army veteran and was honorably dis‐charged in 1968. Alvin lived in Blackburn all of his adult life and was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He worked for Standard Oil Fer‐tilizer, which later became Amoco and then SCF, then at United Refrigeration and Coreslab, both in Marshall. Alvin most recently worked for West‐ Central Independent Living Solutions (WILS) where he built handicap accessible ramps. He es‐pecially liked his work with WILS because he was helping people be able to get in and stay in their own homes as well as getting to interact with those he helped. Alvin enjoyed horseshoe pitch‐ing and bow shooting. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, a current member of Tie‐man‐ Blackburn American Legion Post 478 and Marshall Bow Hunters.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Carolyn; he is survived by two daughters, Sharla Wright (Earl) of Blackburn and Leslie Dierking (Craig) of rural Sweet Springs; one grandson, Aaron Wright; one brother, Norman Dial (Barbara) of Nelson; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Cody Austin Dierking; and a brother who died at birth, Clarence Alyn Dial.
