For the first time in program history, the Marshall High School boys soccer team won the state championship. The Owls scored the final three goals in a 3-1 victory over Excelsior Springs in the semifinal round Friday and then outlasted Orchard Farm 2-1 in the Class 2 State Championship game Saturday. After the two teams played through regulation and two overtimes, Owls’ junior goalkeeper Jeffrey Moreno made a save on Orchard Farm’s fourth penalty kick, and the Owls won the shootout 4-3 at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton.
