Lady ‘Hounds to be under new leadership

After five years under the tutelage of Brent Niemeyer, the Sweet Springs Lady Greyhounds’ basketball program will be under new guidance for the 2024-25 campaign.Niemeyer decided to not take on another season as Lady ‘Hounds’ head coach earlier this year and stepped down for personal reasons, and Sweet Springs resident DJ Griggs was hired to take over the reins.Griggs, a 2001 graduate of Maynard (Ark.) High School and a 2005 graduate of College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Griggs is no stranger to coaching basketball in the area, as he coached at Trinity Lutheran School in Alma for seven years.

Wilkinson inks letter of intent to play softball at Missouri S&T

One of the most decorated athletes in Marshall High School history has made a decision where she is going to be playing college softball.Last Wednesday in near the island at the high school, senior Riley Wilkinson made it official, signing a letter-of-intent to play softball at NCAA Division II Missouri S&T in Rolla.Wilkinson, who holds MHS softball records in five different categories (four offensively and one from in the circle) in program history, said she chose to play for the Lady Miners of the Great Lakes Valley Conference for multiple reasons.“I chose Missouri S&T because they are known for their academics,” she said.
