Mach makes it back to state links tourney

By shooting a Top-10 score in the Class 3, District 4 golf tournament at Belton Monday, Marshall junior Breanna Mach is headed to state.Mach fired a 98 on the par-72 Eagles’ Landing Golf Course in Belton, which was good enough for a tie for 10th place.The 18-hole event was won by Jaycie Lowery of Capital City with a 78.Only the Top 12 golfers carded double-digit scores, and the Top 20 duffers and top two teams advanced to state.Lady Owl freshman Melanie Durham just missed a spot at state by finishing 25th with a 118.

Greyhounds race past Orrick, 52-22

Improving as the season has progressed, the Sweet Springs Greyhounds put it all together in week seven.Sophomore quarterback Drayton Hampton accounted for five touchdowns, and the ‘Hounds raced past home-standing Orrick 52-22 in a Central River League I-70 Division game last Friday night.Also an integral part of the offensive explosion was junior Jason Gonzalez, who hauled in three scoring strikes from Hampton.Head coach Jeff Holtzman praised the entire roster.“It was a great, total team effort tonight,” he said.
