Care Connection for Aging Services encourages the community to observe Falls Prevention Awareness Week from September 22-27.The organization and its community Senior Centers are dedicated to empowering older adults to minimize their risk of falling, which is a leading cause of severe injuries and fatalities among individuals over 65, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Lady Owl softball team drops 8-inning decision

It wasn’t the best week for producing wins, but the Marshall Lady Owls’ softball team was in most of the games it played, including a 5-4 home loss to Odessa in eight innings last Wednesday.Prior to that, the Lady owls went 1-3 in the Lake of the Ozarks Tournament in Camdenton and dropped a 7-6 decision at Smith-Cotton.Odessa 5, at Marshall 4 (8)The Lady Owls overcame a 4-0 deficit to tie the game with three runs in the fifth inning but ultimately lost to Odessa 5-4 in eight innings.Despite the loss, head coach Ben Locke saw many positives.“You get ball games where you play well, and a few balls land here or there, it’s a different outcome,” Locke said.

Keehart declared official write-in candidate for Northern Commissioner in November election

Competition has emerged for Saline County’s Northern Commissioner seat in the upcoming November General Election, as a write-in candidacy has been filed with the Saline County Clerk’s Office.According to Saline County Clerk Brittni Burton, Wayne Keehart, a resident of Saline County, has completed and submitted all necessary documents to become a write-in candidate for the position of Northern Commissioner.“We received the write-in submission yesterday morning,” Burton said.
