One Marshall Owl harrier earned a medal in the Smith-Cotton Tiger Invitational held last week in Sedalia.The results say Owl senior Matthew Pomerenke completed the 5,000-meter circuit in 19 minutes, 37.2 seconds, which was good enough for 13th place among the 74-runner field.The winner on the boys’ side was Helias Catholic senior Ian Benne in 17:01.6.
In each of their first three games of the season, the Sweet Springs Greyhounds had been limited to less than 20 points and given up more than 50.The ‘Hounds were able t put up 34 points in week four, but they still lost by 24 points to the Northwest (Hughesville)-Otterville Mustangs.Despite the loss, Greyhounds’ head coach Jeff Holtzman noted his team improved.“I’m very pleased with how hard our kids competed tonight against a very good Northwest-Otterville team,” he said.

The Marshall Owls improved to 9-0 on the soccer season with the pair of shutout wins at Southern Boone in Ashland last weekend.The Owls blanked the host Eagles 8-0 in their first match last Friday and then shut out the Laquey with Richland Hornets 5-0 Saturday.Marshall 8, Southern Boone 0The Owls scored three goals in the first 40 minutes and ended the match via the 8-goal mercy rule with less than two minutes left in regulation.Junior striker Danis Alvarez netted a hat trick to lead the Owls.
For the first time since the COVID-altered 2020 season, the Slater Wildcats have won three games in one season on the gridiron.The Wildcats put on their track shoes and scored early and often, rolling to an 82-0 victory over the Santa Fe Chiefs at home last Friday night.Slater first-year head coach Mitchell Jenkins says the ‘Cats came ready to play.“I think we scored on our first nine possessions, and a lot of those one play and two-play drives,” Jenkins said.
