The Optimist Club of Marshall held its annual Substance Abuse Prevention Poster Contest.
County officeholders provide monthly reports
The Saline County Commission handled fairly regular business early in their Wednesday, April 10, meeting.Commissioners approved several commission orders dealing with the transfer of payroll funds and CERF funds, as well as voiding a check made out to the wrong name of a vendor and reissuing the check in the correct name.

Election results were accepted during the Sweet Springs Board of Alderman meeting Monday, April 8.

Gooden, Lin move forward to Optimists state competition
The District Optimist Oratorical Contest was held the weekend of April 6-7 in Sedalia.Andrea Gooden, representing the Marshall Morning Optimist Club, placed first in the event.Michelle Lin, who was sponsored by the Mid-Day Optimist Club of Marshall, placed second in the contest.Both Marshall High School students now advance to the State Competition, to be held later in May.Lauren Riley and Piper Brunson, both of MHS, were also competing in the District Competition.

The Marshall Police Department responded to the following calls from April 4-9, 2024:– Juvenile Report – Truancy issues-DWI - Justin Tichenor arrested for DWI- Trespassing - Jeremiah Hayes was arrested for trespassing- Non-injury accident- DWI - Juvenile- Abandoned vehicle- Juvenile Report - Beyond Parental Control- Medical - Officers checked the well-being of an individual- Juvenile Report - Beyond Parental Control- Child Custody - Officers assisted with child custody issue- Abandoned vehicle- Medical assist on possible overdose- Warrant arrest - Kelsey Hopkins arrested on Saline County Warrant for Burglary with $10,000 cash only bond.
