County Commission talks Lemon Bridge, approves bid for Emergency Management

The bridge on Lemon Trail Avenue and a bid for Saline County Emergency Management were topics of discussion during the Saline County Commission meeting Wednesday, March 27.According to Northern Commissioner Stephanie Gooden, the bridge on Lemon Trail Avenue, also referred to as Lemon Bridge, will now be a part of the I-70 West Project.“It is east of Marshall Junction,” Gooden explained.

Marshall City Council passes several ordinances

The Marshall City Council passed several ordinances during a regular meeting Tuesday, March 19., including a second reading of the ordinance authorizing the Board of Public Works to execute a mutual aid agreement with the Missouri Public Utility Alliance, as well as the second reading of an ordinance authorizing the Board of Public Works to execute a contract with Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company.The council also heard and passed the second reading of the ordinance executing an agreement between the City of Marshall and the Marshall School District for the exchange of certain real property in the City of Marshall.“If you all recall, we had the superintendent here on our special meeting.

MHS, Santa Fe thinclads compete at Mule Relaysby Hobby KingSPORTS EDITORMarshall and Santa Fe athletes opened their track and field seasons at the Indoor and Outdoor Mule Relays March 18 and 19 in Warrensburg.In the Class 3-4-5 event on Monday, Owl senior Stephen Caviness won the high jump at 1.8 meters and the long jump at 6.12 meters.Lady Owl junior Shelley Thompson was third in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 7.82 seconds.Lady Owl senior Bayleigh Malter was fifth in the high jump at 1.4 meters.Caviness added a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.28 seconds.Lady Owl freshman Heidi Jiminez was sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:51.16.The Class 1-2 event was held March 19, and the Santa Fe teams had a few athletes finish in the top six.Lady Chief sophomore Mia Lark was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:49.16.Lady Chief junior Laney Ballenger was fourth in the long jump at 4.58 meters and sophomore Brooke Dierking fourth in the shot put at 9.71 meters.Ballenger also was sixth in the 60-meter dash in 8.73 seconds.
