I love to read. Books can take you to places you’ve never been or to various time periods past, present and future. Within the pages of a good book you might also find that you are, at least temporarily, some else. You might become a knight in shining armor, or a short person with large, hairy feet; a town marshal in a booming mining town somewhere in the old west; or an astronaut helping to establish a new colony on some planet in a galaxy far, far away.
It’s an old story, and a familiar one to anyone who goes to church. King Ahab of Israel had two problems; first he was self-centered, and second he was accommodating to the pagan idolatry of neighboring nations. These two problems led to a third problem. King Ahab kept “bumping into” God’s personal representative, Elijah. The prophet of God was known as “The troubler of Israel” because of his confronting the King with his sin.
